Gordon Ramsays Pub & Grill, Caesars Palace

Duck Confit Salad. All Photos by Anthony Mair

Everybody whos anybody in Las Vegas, to paraphrase the writer John Gregory Dunne, goes by one name. Cher does Vegas. Celine does Vegas. So does Gordon.

The peripatetic Gordon Ramsay, who regularly abuses his minions in various TV shows, makes perfect sense here, as he proved with his first venture, Gordon Ramsay Steak in Paris Las Vegas. His second Strip venture, Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill, is as British as the Millennium Eye, a place where servers wear houndstooth, beer kegs line the walls, and 80s music from U.K. artists such as Adam Ant can be heard through the din.

The former Bradley Ogden space has been overhauled, and the seating capacity is now nearly 300. The front of the restaurant is open to the casino floor, and various design touchessuch as those red phone booths you find in Londonhave been added, just in case you didnt already know this was, in essence, a British pub.

Brussels Sprouts

Good thing, because the food here didnt convince me I was. Ramsays menu is prepared by talented chef Jeremy Berlin. But somehow, it all feels compromised, geared to the mainstream. Most dishes are tasty, but several of them are underseasoned and lack daring. Once again, were told to expect gastropub fare. And once again, we get a tricked-up, British version of Culinary Dropout. Still, I dont doubt that Ramsays doing exactly what he planned.

Take the tiny crock of cheese brought with the interesting house pretzel and pumpkin seed breads. Instead of hitting a home run with a Welsh rarebit, what we get here is an altogether bland spread, British Velveeta. Or how about the English ale onion soup? At Gordon Ramsay Steak, its a dish worth returning for. This take is sweet, oily and forgettable.

This is not to say there arent high points.

Yorkshire ale-battered fish and chipscod, Im toldhave a deliciously crunchy exterior, and come with large, proper English-style chips and a side of mushy peas. If youre a fan of shepherds pie, this beef and lamb stew with root vegetables topped with mashed potatoes is excellent, although I would have preferred a piped-on crust.

I also liked the chilled shrimp salad and the fine, fatty pork and duck rillettes, served in a clever duo of mason jars. And I love the iPad drink menu and the fact that there are three dozen beers on draft.

But other dishes disappointed me, especially since, given the talent level of Ramsay, my expectations were rather high. Mustard-glazed lamb short riblettes were fatty and generally flavorless. Brick-pressed Cornish chicken wasnt crisp, and I didnt notice any sign that it had been pressed.

Fish dishes acquit themselves well, though. Both pan-roasted snapper and sauted Scottish salmon are imaginatively garnished and well prepared. PEI mussels and clams with chorizo and caramelized fennel come in a deliciously creamy broth.

Pot de Creme

And then there are the desserts, to my mind, the best reason to stop in here beyond the good cocktails, beers and other libations. Sticky toffee pudding is the mainstay, and though slightly different than the one served at Gordon Ramsay Steak (this time, it comes with sweet-cream ice cream instead of brown-butter ice cream), it is still amazing.

Equally good is Peanut Butter & Jelly, a sort of blackberry cobbler paired with peanut crumble; Spotted Dog, an unreasonably rich bread pudding; and a butterscotch pot de crme layered with spice cake and pumpkin seeds.

The pot de crme is so good it almost made me forget the previous occupant here, Mr. Bradley Ogden. But not quite.

Miley Cyrus practices yoga poses on the beach in Costa Rica on January 21, 2013.

Miley Cyrus is finding her chakra in paradise. On a recent vacation to Costa Rica with fiance Liam Hemsworth, his brother Chris Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky and other in-laws, the 20-year-old singer actress hit the beach in a bikini. While her fiance and his brother were snapped surfing, the Hannah Montana star preferred a more mellow form of exercise: Yoga.

In a slew of snapshots taken in the surf and sand Jan. 21, Cyrus displayed her taut, toned physique in a tiny black two-piece (later changing into a sports top) as she showed of her flexibility and master-level yoga moves including the "downward dog" and other classic poses.

White Truffles at Valentino, The Venetian

A note of apology: I was ill during the season and was unable to publish this in a timely fashion.

veal tartine

Hear ye, hear ye! That most rare of gourmet comestibles, tuber magnatum, (aka the white truffle), is upon us yet again this Xmas season. There are at least nine places in town at which to partake, among them Savoy, Robuchon and even Due Forni, but none better than at Valentino, where Chef Luciano Pellegrini gives them royal raiment.

This has become a yearly event at the Venetian by now. You may recall that I wrote an article about his dinner last year, but truffles, like wine, vary from year to year. This year, the tubers werent as pungent as last, but still a mind blowing fall treat. And Looch, who never seems to run out of creations, matched them masterfully again this year.

cheese with chestnut honey and nut bread

The truffle season begins in late October, when hunters and their dogs dig up their pale white jewels, selling them for prices we mortals can only dream about. This year, Looch kept the dinner small, unless you count the presence of Robin Leach, and his stentorian voice.

homemade quail sausage

First, appetizers were passed at the bar, while we waited for Robin the First. Among them were crispy cones containing Wagyu beef tartare, and tiny cheese tarts topped with, surprise, shavings of white truffle. These were washed down by flutes of Prosecco, that non-pareil Italian sparkling wine that is champagne, by another appellation. (Which just happened to be, in this case, Maurizio Zanellas fine Ca del Bosco Franciacorta.)

open ravioli with sweetbreads

Once seated, a grateful group ate its way through six more courses, each one topped with more shavings, ministered to personally by Pellegrini. Among the courses we ate, a few stood out. An open ravioli with sweetbreads springs to mind, accompanied by 2007 Barbaresco from Ca Rome. But the homemade quail sausage on cabbage flan wowed everyone, as well, and so did the wine pairing, the 09 Barbera from Hilberg Pasquero.

ostrich and polenta

After a struzzo, thats ostrich to you, Vito, with porcini mushrooms, we enjoyed a troika of desserts, um, make that a trio, and some fizzy red dessert wine Ive already forgotten by choice. Well, it was almost a perfect evening, even if the truffles werent at peak this calendar year. Thanks Again, Chef.

Miley Cyrus Shows Off Flat Stomach During Costa Rica Vacation

Miley Cyrus

Rather than enjoying rest and relaxation while on vacation in Costa Rica, Miley Cyrus has been focusing on her fitness -- and she's showing off the results. The singer, 20, posed for a photo that showed off her skinny frame and flat stomach in a sexy outfit.

Rad and Refined shared the shot on Facebook Sunday, Jan. 27, of Cyrus blowing kisses to the camera while posing in their colorful cropped tube top and cut-off denim shorts. While vacationing with fiance Liam Hemsworth and his brothers Chris and Luke, Cyrus has been photographed flaunting her toned body while doing yoga on the beach.

In addition to staying fit, the former Hannah Montana star has been tweeting about trying to stick to her diet. "Too. Much. Pizza. Back on the health train tomorrow. Cheat night," she wrote Jan. 24. "You can't always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside."

"I now remember why I never eat pizza. It makes me feel like s--t. Glutenized," she wrote, but then quickly added, "Let me clarify 's--t' wasn't meaning 'fat.' I mean sick. Because gluten is poisoning me. Your stomach has a brain too and it hates s--t food."

"Ate too much pizza and French fries," Cyrus explained. "Yoga and a swim in the a.m."

And it seems Cyrus plans to go on a raw diet -- but she treated herself to one more cheat day first. "Back to raw tomorrow," she tweeted Jan. 27. "Right after these birthday cake Oreos."

Adam Levine Flexes Buff Biceps, Reveals Workout Routine

Adam Levine

Forget about The Voice: it's all about Adam Levine's body! Wearing a tight black T-shirt and blue jeans, the Maroon 5 frontman shows off his buff biceps on the March cover of Men's Health.

In the accompanying interview, the "One More Night" singer credits yoga with reshaping his body and giving him a calmer demeanor. "It's made me more successful," Levine explains. "I love it and don't know what I'd do without it."

The zen musician adds, "I have a hard time sitting still. I can be all over the map. Yoga has given me the ability to be more focused and make better decisions that come from a clear place."

Levine is quick to point out that he doesn't fit the mold of a stereotypical yogi. "There's a very specific yoga cliche: Eat these foods, wear these clothes, believe only these things," he says. "I don't want to be that."

Credit: Ture Lillegraven/MenĂ¢€™s Health

The 33-year-old rock star -- who's currently dating Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo -- also shares his style secrets with Men's Health. "I tend to go for clothes with a classic feel. But I also want them to have a story, a history, some meaning," he says. "I don't want to buy a T-shirt and then go out to lunch and see someone else wearing the same thing. I want my clothes to be unique. Not necessarily expensive, just one of a kind."

VIDEO: How Adam Levine fell for Behati Prinsloo

Though he's mostly seen wearing a T-shirt and jeans, Levine says he has an eclectic wardrobe. "When you look at anyone who I considered a fashion icon, the clothes are always a collage of different looks and moods. I love waking up, throwing on some yoga pants, and hanging out all day looking like a psycho. And then that night I'll throw on a suit and go out looking like a businessman," he explains. "I love that flexibility. I wouldn't do any of this sh-t if it weren't fun."

Bagatelle, a Supper Club at the Tropicana

truffle gnocchi a la parisienne. all photos by checko salgado

We are in Bagatelle Restaurant & Supper Club, the luxurious new supper club/nightclub/destination brunch hot spot opened last month in the Tropicana by the OneGroup, and there isnt a single other table occupied at the start of dinner service on a Wednesday evening. The club is a major investment for the group that brought us STK at the Cosmo$6 million, rumor has itand it certainly looks the part. But no one looks worried. Im told the club, which has to be a good 200 feet across, was jam-packed on a recent Saturday night.

Looking around this sprawling and extremely white space, youre bound to be impressed. A giant crystal chandelier, the rooms centerpiece, must have cost a fortune, and there are well over a dozen other chandeliers scattered throughout the three-tiered dining room. The entrance is rather grand as well: You approach the restaurant by walking down a long corridor fronted by a podium where youll be welcomed by a pair of comely hostesses. The first thing you see is a giant screen, awash in ever-changing videos. Then you turn a corner into the club area, which made me gasp at the sheer vastness.

Tables are draped in elegant white cloths; framed head shots of movie stars such as Paul Newman, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe grace the walls; and large-format bottles of boutique wines and champagnes sit fetchingly, if not suggestively, on the sideboards. Beyond the rear doors is an even larger space outside, Bagatelle Beach. A mere triflewhich is roughly what the word bagatelle meansthis place aint.

My two meals here had very different vibes. The first experience was a dinner at 6:30 p.m., early by Strip standards, granted, but still shocking, when one considers that this place seats nearly 300 guests. We were ensconced in a booth on the upper dining level, gazing down at the empty lower dining tiers to the central dance floor, and felt like survivors after a natural disaster.

When we returned for the vaunted brunchBagatelles signature eventthe room was alive, thanks in part to a dozen snow bunnies, cocktail servers prancing about the room. On that occasion, at least a dozen tables were occupied, while a DJ spun musicthe sort youd hear at a Cirque de Soleil performancethat was bizarre to these ears.

That shouldnt come as a surprise. This club started in a French-speaking country, St. Barth, before spreading to New York, So Paulo and, soon, Miami. So the food is slightly French, as well, prepared by chef John Zamarchi, who has plenty of talent.

tuna tartare

I thoroughly enjoyed my meals here. At dinner, I was fond of Salade Bagatelle, a glass bowl filled with butter lettuce (which I much prefer to iceberg), dressed with a trs French mustard-laced-vinaigrette sprinkled with herbs and cheese. A workmanlike tuna tartare came in the form of atian, i.e., in a molded circle, on top of some chopped avocado.

As a mid-course, we had the truffle gnocchi a la Parisiennesoft, melty pasta pillows in a black-truffle sauce that for once didnt reek of artificial truffle oil. Truffled chicken has to be the star entre: a whole roasted organic chicken for two in a wonderfully rich sauce, plated with country-style potatoes and mushrooms. We also tried grilled wild salmon with a perfectly acceptable hollandaise.

steak au poivre

The menu is looser at brunch, although the entres are available. I had the house sangria, and was surprised to discover blueberries in it. If raspberry Nutella French toast sounds extravagant, thats because it is. I defy anyone to eat it all. My wife had a classic steak au poivre, served with herbedfrites. Neither of us was in a mood for the vaunted Bagatelle Sundae, made with six scoops of Hagen-Dazs and an array of syrups and fruit.

I dont know how they plan to fill this massive room, but the staff is optimistic. General manager Roy Saunders is something of a Vegas fixture, and the servers are enthusiastic, if overly aggressive about upselling at times. And watch out for those snow bunnies.

Chris Hemsworth vs. Liam Hemsworth: Which Brother Looks Sexier Shirtless?

Chris Hemsworth and Liam Hemsworth in Costa Rica on January 21, 2013.

Who's the hotter Hemsworth? Australian actors Chris Hemsworth and Liam Hemsworth showed off their buff bodies while vacationing together in Costa Rica Jan. 21. The two were went surfing with their father, Craig Hemsworth, and their actor brother, Luke Hemsworth.

Standing tall at 6-foot-2, Chris showed off his pronounced pectoral muscles while carrying his surfboard along the shore. "It wasn't until Thor that I started lifting weights. It was all pretty new to me," the 29-year-old actor once told Men's Health. The Cabin in the Woods star also revamped his diet to include more protein sources, vegetables and fruit. Said Chris, "Eating when you're not hungry and taking in that amount of food is exhausting."

Liam -- who brought along his 20-year-old fiancee, Miley Cyrus -- surfed competitively for five years beginning at age 13. "Every day, before and after school. I wanted to surf for the rest of my life," the 23-year-old Hunger Games actor once told Men's Health. "It's what all my friends did -- I even had it as a subject in school for a number of years. They teach you all parts of the surfing industry. How to judge surf heats, that sort of thing."

In addition to surfing, Liam works out with a personal trainer (a former Navy SEAL) five to six days a week. According to the Empire State actor, his exercises include throwing tires, climbing ropes -- "all sorts of unorthodox stuff that you wouldn't normally do in a gym," he told the magazine.

Cantina Laredo at Tivoli Village

Tivoli Village started slowly, but things have picked up of late, and the mall, which still feels like a poor relation of Boca Park, should gather steam in 2013. I like their chances.

Part of my optimism is based on a number of new restaurants slated to open. Angelo Sosa is about to launch an Asian fusion restaurant, Poppy Den; and creative L.A. chef Sam Marvin will reveal a steakhouse called Echo & Rig sometime in spring.

You wont starve in the meantime, though. View Wine Bar & Kitchen in the Market is hot, while Brio and Caf Leone are holding steady. But for me, the best current choice is the recently opened Cantina Laredo, part of a chain with more than 100 locations from Texas to Dubai.

Although the cuisine is Mexican, the design feels Japanese, thanks to lots of white birch paneling and floor-to-ceiling glass windows. This is a handsome, rambling space, with a bar, a large outdoor patio furnished with fancy tables and chairs that arent much used during the cold months, an abundance of sculptures and a number of lithographs by 20th-century artists, such as Joan Mir.

You dont have to stare long at that weird metal cart contraption (a sculpture, more like) being wheeled around from table to table. The gimmicky Top Shelf Guacamole cart, which the servers push relentlessly, is stocked with glass jars containing minced peppers and other components made to mash into peeled avocado. Do you want some? Maybe, but I prefer the two complimentary house salsas. That said, be careful not to fill up on the endless baskets of warm house tortilla chips, which will be rapidly replenished by the friendly servers here.

One of the advantages of dining in a chain restaurant is how accommodating management is authorized to be. I ordered thechile con quesoa bowl of melted, lifeless cheeseand the dish was magically removed from my check when I suggestedmerely suggestedto the server that it wasnt what anyone was expecting.

Furthermore, the team tries hard to please. Youre asked repeatedly how you like any given dish, and if you so much as wrinkle your nose, someone will offer to substitute it for something else. Happily, that is rarely the case: This cooking is solid, Americanized to some extent, but generally quite flavorful.

tacos de barbacoa

Tacos de barbacoa, for instance, is made with slow-simmered, meltingly tender brisket, and no one at my table minded thatbarbacoaalmost always means lamb in Mexico. An excellentpastor(spiced pork) gets its understated sweetness from diced pineapple.Enchiladas de carnehave a deliciouspicadillo(ground beef) filling, and come blanketed in a rich, dark sauce laced with chilies. That same filling graces thechile relleno, which three of us fought over.

Look toEspecialidadesforFiesta de la Parilla, my favorite dish in the house. A sizzling-hot metal plate arrives, topped with shrimp, carnitas, quail, beef and chicken with onions and peppers. Guacamole, sour cream and chopped tomatoes come with it, as well, in a little side dish concealing a pile of tortillas. Is it the same guacamole as servers make at the table? Not quite, but who cares?

the traditional mexican apple pie?

The sizzling plate also figures in the two big-deal desserts, one called Mexican Apple Pie, the other Mexican Brownie. Of course, neither is Mexican in the slightest, but the servers make a big production out of pouring brandy-butter on them, which melts and bubbles on cue. This cant be bad. Cantina Laredo isnt too bad, either.

Jennifer Lopez Shows Off Toned Bikini Body on Miami Yacht: Picture

Jennifer Lopez enjoys an afternoon with friends and family on The Superyacht Utopia III in Miami Beach on January 20, 2013.

As if Miami weren't hot enough! Jennifer Lopez sizzled while enjoying a day in the sun with family and friends in Florida over the weekend. The 43-year-old "Dance Again" singer was photographed soaking up some rays on Jan. 20 aboard the Superyacht Utopia III in Miami Beach. Keeping her eyes hidden behind a pair of aviator shades, the sexy star showed off her world-famous curves and toned abs in a halter-style blue bikini.

Lopez is obviously in fantastic shape, but as she revealed to Access Hollywood recently, even she has insecurities about her figure. For her new film with Jason Statham, the action flick Parker, the thrice-divorced mom-of-two (to 4-year-old twins Max and Emme) had to strip down to her bra and underwear. And to say she was nervous would be an understatement.

"I was terrified. My heart was beating out of my chest," the actress told Access Hollywood of taking off her clothes in front of Statham and the rest of the movie crew. "You take a long time to prepare for something [like that], mentally as well as physically." Afterward, she joked, all she wanted was a hamburger from McDonald's.

Offscreen, Lopez is in a good, happy place, thanks in part to boyfriend Casper Smart, whom she has been dating for more than a year. "He's fantastic; he's like my best friend," she told Harper's Bazaar in a recent interview. "I can tell him everything, when I'm feeling down, when I'm feeling good. He gives moral support, endless love and support."

Miley Cyrus Snuggles with Shirtless Liam Hemsworth on Beach in Costa Rica: Pictures

Miley Cyrus and her fiance Liam Hemsworth cuddle up on the beach watching the sunset in Costa Rica on January 17, 2013.

South of the border with Miley, her man and the in-laws! Miley Cyrus and fiance Liam Hemsworth had their New Year's getaway considerably later than the rest of Hollywood -- hitting Costa Rica Jan. 17. In one of the first snapshots of the engaged young couple of the New Year, the singer-actress, 20, snuggles with the shirtless Hunger Games star, 23, as they watched the sunset on the beach.

Cyrus was surprisingly modest for the sundown moment -- wearing a black tank top and shorts rather than a skimpy bikini. Joining the couple for the vacation were Hemsworth's older brother and fellow movie star Chris Hemsworth, his wife Elsa Pataky and their baby daughter India, 9 months, among other members of the extended Hemsworth clan.

For the actual Christmas holiday, Cyrus' husband-to-be bonded with her famous family -- including her mom Tish, brother Trace and others -- wearing a Santa hat and crossing his eyes for a goofy Christmas-morning snapshot he shared with fans via Pheed.

The former Hannah Montana star was feeling philosophical, as usual, on her Twitter, throughout her holiday. "Taking care of your body is so important but so easily forgotten," she wrote. "Healthiness is happiness. Laugh when you can, say sorry when you should, & let go of what you can't change."

The Buffet at Aria

Are you old enough to remember that old political clich as Maine goes, so goes the nation? Of course, it isnt applicable anymore. All those Boston liberals moved to Maine to dodge taxes, and now, its just another Blue State.

But my gourmet dinner at the newly revamped Buffet at Aria did bring the phrase to mind. The buffet, in its present form, is a microcosm for what we are eating in America today. Twenty years ago, the idea of eating dim sum, Chicago style deep dish pizza and salumi, or sushi on a casino buffet would have been absurd. Today, they are de rigueur.

Actually, though, the recently re-opened buffet here is much improved, and makes more sense than the previous incarnation. First off, the color scheme, burnt orange and beige highlights, is more relaxed. Secondly, the casino has made better use of the space, so it now feels more open and inviting.

The buffet is divided into sections with names like Sweets, Diner and Asian, clearly displayed in signage above the various dishes. The desserts are now individual portion sizes, except for items such as deep dish apple pie, or a cinnamon swirl bread pudding, which are spooned up from large bowls. Many dishes are presented in Le Creuset pots, those French enamel Dutch ovens that are both so attractive and practical. Other dishes are displayed in Mason jars with open tops, an idea cribbed from the Wicked Spoon, the groundbreaking buffet across Harmon Avenue at the Cosmopolitan.

This is just another battle in the buffet wars. Caesars Palace fired a huge shot across the bow of their competitors when they opened Bacchanale Buffet, their extravaganza in the main casino. (The Caesars buffet has been doing a land office business; sometimes there are lines of up to two hours just to get inside.)

That wont happen here, nor has it happened at the Cosmopolitan. These buffets are what I call location challenged. Buffet at Aria is on the second level, next to the Zarkana Theater, up a long escalator from the casino floor, not a location youd pass by accident. (Wicked Spoon suffers from a similarly obscure, second level placement.) Oh well.

At any rate, here are some of the highlights you can expect if you dine here on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evening, when fresh oysters and King crab legs are on the menu. I am impressed by the naan bread and tandoori chicken at the Tandoori station, and they also stock three or four Indian curries on a rotating menu.

Sushi is made to order while you watch; the unagi, or fresh water eel, is especially tasty. At the Carvery, youll find the obligatory turkey and roast beef, with the surprise of leg of lamb offered. Directly next to it, there is a Barbecue station, loaded with meats that have a nice smoke ring, made in the main kitchen downstairs. (The huge, meaty beef ribs rule. Pass on the fatty brisket).

At the Asian station, there are dim sum trios in individual bamboo steamers, plus four wok dishes, typically, a fried rice, a fried noodle, and two meat based dishes, each one still in their giant woks. The Italian station has terrific cold cuts, deep dish and thin crust pizza, Stromboli, garlic bread bites and pastas en casserole, such as lasagna.

But what impressed me the most was the Sweets. Here, there is a twirling display of house made gelati, French candies such as pates de fruits and fresh marshmallows in serving dishes, beautifully plated, imaginative pastries, Red Velvet whoopee pies, and a terrific pistachio apricot roll being just two, plus gluten and sugar-free options.

Toto, were not in Kansas anymore. In fact, I dont think Kansas is, either.

Top Chef Angelo Sosas Poppy Den Opens at Tivoli Village

Miso Salmon with Shishito Peppers

Summerlin, after years of enduring chains such as the Claim Jumper and the sadly Americanized Mimis Caf, is finally coming into its own as a restaurant destination. But I was discouraged to hear (from an employee at Vintner Grill) that Honey Salt had taken a bite out of the bottom line at that restaurant. It made me wonder if this area, populated with the smart set, would support a multiplicity of upscale restaurants. Time will tell.

Interior

Now, there is one more. Were talking about Poppy Den, opened by the entrepreneur Kelley Jones at Tivoli Village, and a showcase for the talents of a wiseguy chef, Angelo Sosa, who exudes talent and imagination. The movie star handsome Sosa has quite the resume.

Caesar Salad

Sosa was mentored by Jean-Georges Vongerichten (Prime, Jean-Georges), the Alsatian-born global chef who leans heavily toward Asia when he isnt doing steak in this city. And his food is whimsical, fun and delicious. My only concern is that the locals wont get it. Because in general, the food public gets what it deserves.

It would be too reductive to call this an Asian fusion gastropub; Sosas menu is both too eclectic, and too international to do that. The chef, who is a trifle sassy, is one of the few in the kitchen with the chops to inject his personality into the dishes. The restaurant has an upstairs lounge (formerly home to a Greek disaster called Petra-no one I met had an inkling this place even had an upstairs) and a rustic, black and white main dining room.

Amma's Tomato Soup

Enter through a bar where a number of creative cocktails such as Naked Lunch, a combination of Kai Lychee Vodka, Aperol, lime, sake and cola, are served, and sit next to an outdoor patio not being used during the cold months, which the management will turn into some sort of de facto private seating area when the weather warms.

The Lunch menu is composed of Small Plates, Grains and Large Plates, as well as a few desserts. Snatch up the Jarred Tuna first. Its oddly constructed but addictive. The dish sits in a square glass jar, long strips of tuna marinated in a hard to identify sauce that is creamy, complex and subtly spiced.

Steak and Potatoes

Ammas Homemade Tomato Soup has a swirl of curry cream on top to reduce the acidity that plagues lesser tomato soups, and is a standout. Caesar Salad with Yuzu Dressing uses smoked whitefish instead of anchovy, and has a hint of wasabi. Get the idea?

Not to say that everything works. I didnt much care for the unwieldy The Generals Chicken Wings. They were nicely spiced, but had too much cornstarch in their crusts, and the bionic sized wings lacked any visual appeal. But more conventional bites from Asia, such as Korean BBQ short ribs, tasty, but light on the sesame oil and garlic, or an interesting, Korean-influenced take on seared pork dumplings-really just the mandu that you can get in any Korean restaurant around here, work better.

Korean Barbecue Short Ribs

As to the Large Plates I sampled, Miso Salmon with Shishito Peppers was the best one, with something called Steak and Potatoes coming in a close second. Im not sure about the little trick Sosa pulls with these potatoes, spice crusted golden brown medallions. If you like home fries, though, these potatoes are about ten times better.

Sosa told me I had to come back for the Poppy Burger. I want to. After eating this food, I know it wont be ordinary. If youve saved room for dessert, his take on the conventional strawberry shortcake will dazzle you. Instead of that dry biscuit, he uses what looks and tastes like tres leches cake without the gooey frosting as a substitute.

Its a brilliant idea, just one of many, apparently, that this guy is waiting to spring on us.

Demi Moore Rocks Hot Bikini Body in Mexico, Hangs With Hunky Shirtless Man at Beach: Pictures

Demi Moore in Mexico on January 10, 2013.

Is it 2013 or 2003? Demi Moore, 50, showed off her bikini body during a private getaway in Tulum, Mexico on Jan. 2 -- looking nearly as trim and taut as she did ten years ago, when she unveiled her figure in a two-piece during an iconic beach scene in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

Wearing a super-skimpy Missoni bikini, the LOL actress was spotted emerging from the surf at the Amansala Eco-Chic Resort alongside a shirtless, hunky mystery man on Jan. 2. (Earlier photos from the excursion revealed Moore sitting in the sand among other women for a surfside "boot camp" -- covered with clay from a spa treatment.) During the solo vacation, Moore also indulged in massages, yoga classes and other spa treatments.

The next week, Moore was photographed back on home turf in Beverly Hills -- dining with restauranteur (and Lindsay Lohan ex) Harry Morton, 31. But despite speculation to the contrary, a source close to Moore tells Us "they are absolutely not dating."

Meanwhile, Moore future ex-husband Ashton Kutcher -- he filed for divorce in December, over a year after the couple announced their separation -- is getting decidedly serious with love Mila Kunis.

"Ashton wants to move on with his life," another insider tells Us.

Demi Moore Wears Tiny Bikini, Covers Body With Clay in Mexico: Pictures

Demi Moore

Demi Moore isn't afraid to get a little (or a lot!) dirty -- literally. The 50-year-old Margin Call actress recently spent a vacation in Tulum, Mexico where, among other things, she stripped down to a bikini to reveal her famously fit, slim physique.

Gathered with other bathing-suit clad women on the beach (part of a "bikini boot camp" which also included masages), Moore was snapped sitting peacefully in the sand -- with her body covered in dried clay from a recent mud spa treatment. In another shot, Moore, wearing a loose, sheer cover-up, checked out a menu and schedule of spa treatments.

"She's in a good place," a source recently told Us of Moore, who had a breakdown almost exactly a year ago following her separation from Ashton Kutcher, who filed divorce papers late last year. "She's open to experiencing new things." That also includes renewing her dating life: Back in L.A. on Jan. 9, Moore was photographed on an apparent date with Harry Morton, a 31-year-old restauranteur who once dated Lindsay Lohan.

"They are just getting to know each other," an E! News source said of the pair, reportedly dating for the past couple months and last seen together at South Beverly Grill in Beverly Hills. 34-year-old Kutcher, meanwhile, has been dating former That 70s Show costar Mila Kunis since last spring, with the Kunis even spending the Christmas holiday with Kutcher's family in Iowa.

Claire Danes on Her Post-Baby Bod at the Golden Globes: I Haven't Lost All the Baby Weight

Claire Danes

There were a lot of beautiful women in beautiful dresses at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 13. But for a while, at least, all eyes were on new mom Claire Danes, who walked the red carpet in a sexy halter-style number less than a month after giving birth to son Cyrus Michael Christopher Dancy, her first child with husband Hugh Dancy.

The Homeland star, 33, looked incredible in a red Versace gown that showed off her slim waist and toned arms. But she claimed she still had a ways to go before she got her post-baby body back to her pre-baby weight. Asked how she dropped all the pregnancy pounds so quickly, Danes told Us: "I haven't yet!"

"I am very strapped into this dress," she joked later in the press room, after accepting the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama. "This is Versace, and they are really masters of illusion. I literally can't go to the bathroom unless I take the entire dress off. So, there [are] some serious things involved here."

Of course, it helped that the petite blonde never put on a ton of extra weight while carrying baby Cyrus. "I was on my feet a lot during the pregnancy," she explained of shooting Homeland nearly to full term. "I was working hard. So I didn't have an opportunity to gain much."

What she did gain was a brand new perspective on life. "It's been a huge joy, this experience of becoming a mom," she told reporters of her newest role. "I don't know how to articulate it yet because it is so fresh."

The star, whose son was upstairs at the Beverly Hilton with her parents, also noted earlier that the awards show was her first big night out since giving birth in December. "I'm kind of startled to be in this scene, because I've been so sequestered," she told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. "I've been in baby world."

So what's the biggest difference between baby world and Hollywood? No days off! "I get some sleep, but I just think, like, 'Okay, it's another 4 a.m. call, which I have a lot on set, working in film and television.' So I'm sort of used to being sleep deprived. But this is taking it to another level, and there isn't a weekend off," she said in the Globes press room. "There's no break."

Not that she's complaining. Motherhood is "delicious and the best thing ever," Danes gushed. "So it's very motivating -- the smell, just the scrumptiousness."

Kate Middleton, Prince William's Baby Is Due in July

Prince William and Kate Middleton

July 2013 is going to be an exciting time at Kensington Palace! Pregnant Kate Middleton and Prince William expect to welcome their first child midsummer, they announced in an official statement on Monday Jan. 14 "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July," St. James' Palace tells Us Weekly.

"The Duchess's condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital last month," the statement adds of Kate, 31, who was hospitalized in early December for acute morning sickness. The wording of the royals' happy announcement -- "a baby," singular -- also puts to rest speculation that Kate and William, 30, were expecting twins.

Had Middleton not been admitted to the hospital, the couple had intended to make their announcement at this time, with Middleton safely in her second trimester. "This is the announcement they were hoping to make all along. The Duke and Duchess are delighted that they can finally make the official announcement today," a source explains to Us.

Adds a second insider of Kate's potential due date:"We are looking at the very early days of July." July is a bittersweet month for William; the first of that month was the birthday of his late, beloved mother, Princess Diana.

A Tale of Two Omakase: Japanese Chefs Choice Cuisine in Las Vegas

Omakase, translated loosely from Japanese as chefs choice, is one way to go at many of our best Japanese restaurants. Raku, an off-Strip izakaya, or sake house, has made the genre famous, even though the specialty there is robata, char-grilled dishes.

On Strip, two Japanese restaurants rule, at competing price points. Mizumi at the Wynn will serve you a multi-course dinner for $125, at the whim of the chef. Koi, a jazzy Planet Hollywood venue, will do a less elaborate version for $50, at the sushi bar only.

I ate an elaborate dinner at Mizumi, where talented chef Devin Hashimoto, a native of Hawaii who speaks fluent Japanese, dazzled me with fare such as spicy King crab and taro tacos, and yellowtail sashimi dressed with a jalapeno gelee.

Service at Mizumi commences with formal tea service, premium teas served in glass pitchers. Kikucha is sweet, medicinal and pungent. Genmai is toasty brown rice tea with the finish of buttery popcorn. There are several other options, all at additional charge.

oysters

An omakase at Mizumi might go something like this. Begin with sashimi, as tradition demands, something simple such as a modestly priced mackerel, and then progress to a cold dish such as the crab taco, yellowtail sashimi or chilled kusshi oysters splashed with a yuzu vinaigrette. Dont expect o-toro, fatty tuna belly, for these prices.

pork belly robata-yaki

Now its time for some of that robata-yaki, perhaps chicken wings with lemon, apple wood smoked bacon wrapped asparagus or crunchy pork belly.

mentaiko pasta

Hot dishes would be next, ishikayi tartare bi bim bap, a take on the stone pot mixed rice and vegetable dish served in most Korean restaurants, or Peking duck breast done with duck jus, roasted baby beet and pomegranate. Sushi will be served at the finish. Quality and service are impeccable here. Mizumi is a class act.

You get what you pay for. So while the fall omakase at Koi is a bargain at $50, it wont compare with what you get at Mizumi. This is a set menu, pre-advertised, no choices. If you like lobster salad, youre in luck. Its wrapped in nori seaweed, and makes a terrific first course. The next two courses are raw, hamachi, and then salmon carpaccio, which is almost ruined by the presence of that stinky chemical, truffle oil.

A tempura pumpkin is brought from the kitchen, and then, according to the chef, Chad Kuney, the most popular item served here, spicy tuna on crispy rice, which will be done in the kitchen as well, not at the sushi bar. These dishes are served family style, and not on individual plates. As I said, you get what you pay for.

unagi foie gras (KOI)

Youll then get a freshwater eel and foie gras nigiri sushi, one each. It happens that the sushi chef behind the counter wrinkled his nose at the very mention of this dish, but hes from Japan, and this dish, while palatable, is unheard of in his country.

Duck with Shishito Peppers (KOI)

The main dish in this tasting, also served family style, is my favorite. Were talking rare sliced duck breast with grilled shishito peppers, garnished with pomegranate seed. Its a case of fusion that works, a rare commodity at Koi, IMHO.

Mochi (KOI)

I sort of like the dessert here, mochi ice cream, even though the flavors, green tea and mango, dont appeal to me. Whats wrong with strawberry, or even red bean? For $50, I cant complain. Well, maybe just a little.

Mizumi is at Wynn Las Vegas, 770-7000. Koi is at Planet Hollywood, 454-4455.
